Been to several diamond shops like lee hwa, sookee, citigems. What's a reasonable size and specs for a proposal ring? I'm thinking of a 0.4-0.6. Any ideas?
Think it's more important to set your budget. There's lots of stuuf that requires $$$ during the wedding. Do make sure to look carefully at the cut of the diamond when choosing. Cos that's one factor that isn't properly graded by GIA, AGS etc.
Color-wise, between D-G should be ok. Think the sweet spot for most couples nowadays is F-G with VS1/2 grading. Best value for money and likely the fastest stones to be bought up. So might be hard to find.
Diamonds with more cuts usually take longer to cut and are more expensive. but not necessarily better. In fact, once a diamond has more than the standard 57/58 cuts, it's considered a fancy cut and the value is generally determined only by the shop selling it. Meaning, if you buy a celestial, only GH will guarantee the value while other shops will devalue it like crazy. However, if you buy a standard 57/58 cut (round brillant) diamond appraised by AGS or GIA, the value similar all around the world cos of rappaport prices.
Anyway, nowadays most of the larger diamond retail shops will have a price guarantee for 1-2 years should you decide to upgrade in the near future.
