Hyatt - any comments/ reviews?
Ok, just attended a wedding dinner at Hyatt tonight and have decided to contribute to a review since its fresh on my memory and also, so that the rest of you who are getting married soon will re-think some of your choices at picking the location for your banquet. Good things i like about Hyatt: - Central location at Orchard - Nice lobby - Lots of parking lots (but could be that i was early) Bad things about Hyatt: - SERVICE is TERRIBLE or non-existence. Tonight there were 4 weddings at Hyatt. I think they used a lot of temp waiters at my friend's wedding because: a) it took more than 1 hour for them to get orange juice for us b) they did not bring us tea until after the first dish was served (believe standard practice is that they should start serving tea once we sit down) c) they do not pour tea for you - all guests are required to refill own teacups and nobody actually refilled for us at all. d) once teapot is out of tea, you have to wave and wait at least 15 mins for a new pot of tea e) this is the MOST unacceptable - the way they distributed the noodles was ridiculous. we got a young, 17 - 20yrs old waiter. He obviously could not handle the chinese way of distributing noodles using spoon and fork to "clip" the noodles for distribution. at the end of his distribution, there was black sauce on the rim and OUTSIDE of the bowl. almost all bowls had noodles falling OUT of it - meaning noodles were touching the table. it made the food looked unappetizing. f) same ridiculous standard for dessert. some bowls has 1.5 portion - because after he gave 1 spoonful per bowl, the leftover was divided into the last 4 bowls so they were full to the brim, and there were longans that were falling out. the rest of the bowl looked normal. however because there was sauce, it was also dripping out of the bowl. we left feeling extremely unstatisfied. Not to mentioned that there was always a break of 10 - 15 mins after each dish was cleared and new dish was presented. Very very lousy service. Food was not fantastic. Service was non-existence. Not sure how much they are charging, but I will definitely not considered Hyatt for my wedding UNLESS it is cheaper than the rest of the hotels by at least 30%.

Hi Elyse, I have attended
Hi Elyse, I have attended a few Hyatt weddings before, and sad to say, you are right about their contemporary outlook towards their wedding guests. I feel alot of these big hotels pride themselves as being the Top 10 in Singapore and naturally, there is a tendancy towards a more mature but snobbish attitude in their business structure. Of special mention, with great to excellent service is Four Seasons Hotel & The Conrad Hotel. Superb service for both these places, you will always see the Managers roaming around the hotel, greeting almost everyone and anyone. I guess the culture has to come from the top down. If the managers and top management sucks and are money making snobs that only smiles at great profit incomes and ignore customer service, then the starting point to the staffs down below will never be correct. Its not just in hotels but in any organisation as well I feel. Hyatt Hotel is banking on their reputation and lavish in their hotel outlook and such. Lets not forget they are like Shangri-La Hotels, in which they have some longer standing records that alot of the new comers into the scene. So, look backwards in time, during the 80s and 90s where our society is still developing a choice of entiquette mannerism, perhaps Hyatt today harbours the same classic and nostalgic mentality as the Duran Duran era! Hurrah for 4 Seasons and Conrad, and shame on you Hyatt! Buck up or be buckle up to move downhill - thats what I will say if I have the chance to speak up to them personally:) Take for instance, wedding photographers today. Isnt it a true fact that some of those top notch expensive shooters have attitude also? I have heard many comments about Studio D'xxx's Kxx, and some other 'journalism style' icons who takes great and fantastic photos but its either you live with their arty farty snob nature, or go somewhere else. These people have made their mark and in similar ways to Hyatt Hotel, they have their own regulars who support their production works and leave behind their mental agility issues. So its just a matter of Mind Over Matter.
